When I close my eyes, the first thing that comes to my mind of this city is sherbet and hot pink sunsets that glow over rooftops and historic baroque church steeples. Bells chiming every hour but not always on the hour reminding you that you’re safe and in this magical hue drenched UNESCO center of town where the cobblestone streets lead you directly into hidden doorways filled with artists, a culinary exploration beyond your dreams and yes… donkeys. Don’t forget the mariachi bands that stay next to the park and you can pay them in pesos to sing “Beso Me” or any of your favorite tunes.
San Miguel de Allende sits only a few hours north of Mexico City nestled in the central highlands - it’s a treasure for the senses. You can shop, eat, wander, relax or even soak in the areas natural hot springs. Every time I go I’m in wonder of the new treasures by local talliers and artists. All are made by hand by those who have relocated to this beautiful center of town or traveled nearby to sell their goods from their village. Everyone smiles and if you go just often enough they remember your face and name. If feels like a small town that you’ve always come to and even if you get a little lost you will always find your way (and find something you never knew existed during your ramble).
Some of my most precious design items that we are sharing with you reflect the eclectic aesthetic of SMA. Unique door knockers & vibrant Pom garlands are ubiquitous decor elements on every corner ….true to form this city mixes its organic modern forms with the more historic pieces that truly creates this one of kind place in the world. I can’t wait to show you San Miguel de Allende & all it has to teach us.
